Argosy to Showcase Space-Efficient Miranda NVISION Compact Routers at NAB 2010

Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom, February 10, 2010 — Argosy, a leading UK-based international supplier of HD broadcast cables and studio infrastructure products, will début the latest space-saving Miranda NVISION Compact routers at this year’s NAB Show (Stand no. N4316, 12-15 April 2010) in Las Vegas. In addition Argosy will also demonstrate the company’s most recent range of infrastructure products including an array of fibre management solutions.

NAB 2010 will see the introduction by Argosy of the latest Miranda NVISION Compact routers. Ideally suited to utility routing applications where space is at a premium, the Miranda NVISION Compact routers are available in a comprehensive array of formats, including 3Gb/s, HD, SD, AES, analogue video and analogue audio, as well as machine control. These compact routers are available in sizes from 16x4 up to 32x32, and are housed in 1RU or 2RU frames for maximum space efficiency.

Multiple control options include Ethernet or serial control, local button panels, and remote hard or soft panels. Easy to use configuration software is supplied as standard to simplify key tasks like salvos and partitioning, as well as integration with other Miranda NVISION and third party routing systems.

With these advanced compact routing systems Argosy is well placed to provide a more complete solution to broadcasters as they transition to high-definition — particularly those in small studio, post production and mobile applications where rack space is at a premium.

NAB will see demonstrations of some of the latest Argosy fibre management tools including the SDI fibre video converters, patch panels, the ADC OMX Fibre Optic frame and the company’s BendBright-XS ruggedized fibre optic cables.

With its reduced bend radius single mode fibre cable, BendBright provides good resistance to macro bend attenuation allowing it to be handled in the same way as traditional copper cable. The benefits of which include added versatility, reduced installation time and minimal fibre damage, making BendBright-XS best suited for deployment in confined spaces patch cables, high density areas and outside broadcast vehicles. The BendBright-XS cable is the first fibre of its kind on the market and is unique in its ability to fulfil all three relevant ITU recommendations — G.652.D, G657.A and G.657.

Argosy also provides a range of single and multi-mode fibres which can be supplied in patch, breakout or in multi-way loose-tube & tight buffered constructions with 4 to 864 fibres as per requirement. These cables incorporate internal strength members enabling them to be very versatile and suitable for both internal and external applications whilst maintaining a low weight and shorter bend radiuses for ease of installation.

NAB will also see the first showing by Argosy of the ADC Modular Fibre Optic Frame. This modular front facing concept allows users to have patch, splice and patch cord management all within a 600x300mm footprint. This frame secures the correct cable routing and bend radius to ensure there is no loss of quality or breakages in a fibre circuit. The ADC high density frame terminates and splices up to 576 fibres in 600x300mm and 864 fibres in an 800x300mm frame utilising a 144-position module which is available with the larger 800mm frame.

Argosy will display its Copper to Fibre Media converter, which since its introduction at last years NAB, has been setting new standards by offering greater distances for the transmission of SDI signals (up to 20km depending on bit-rate being used) at one of the lowest price points available on the market today. It works by receiving an HD-SDI electrical input and converting this into a single mode optical signal and supports the transmission of SD-SDI (143-540Mb/s) and HD-SDI (1.485Gb/s). Both transmitter and receiver provide automatic equalization and input re-clocking to ensure signal integrity.

Visitors to the Argosy stand will also see a range of HD infrastructure products including a collection of video, audio and power cables, connectors, rack systems as well as an array of video accessories.

These cables incorporates internal strength members enabling them to be very versatile and suitable for both internal and external applications whilst maintaining a low weight and shorter bend radiuses for ease of installation.

Also with its first showing at BVE will be the Argosy Copper to Fibre Media converter. This converter is already setting new standards by offering greater distances for the transmission of SDI signals - up to 20km depending on bit-rate being used - at one of the lowest price points available on the market today.

Another part of Argosy’s fibre solution on show at BVE 2010 is the ADC Modular Fibre Optic Frame. The modular front facing concept allows users to have patch, splice and patch cord management all within a 600x300mm footprint.

BVE will see the introduction by Argosy of the latest Miranda NVISION Compact routers.

Further highlights from Argosy at BVE 2010 include:

ONE OF THE BEST IN BROADCAST CABLING MEETS
ONE OF THE BEST IN BROADCAST DISTRIBUTION:
Argosy and Belden sign distribution agreement in the UK

Belden, a world leading supplier of signal transmission solutions for the broadcast industry, has announced that it has signed an agreement with Argosy, a leading UK-based international supplier of HD broadcast cables and studio infrastructure products. Under the terms of the agreement, which is effective immediately, Argosy will distribute all of Belden’s extensive range of products, designed specifically to meet the needs of broadcasters and the professional audio visual communities.

In broadcast, top performance and reliability require a high quality product, absolute signal integrity and no system downtime. Belden products provide performance for both critical field applications (where cable is dragged, crunched and trodden on) and permanent studio installations (where the long run is all important). These products are also an important link in major network and cable TV broadcasts, film studios and corporate broadcasting.

Speaking on behalf of Belden, Paul Turner, Vice President Sales & Marketing for the EMEA region, said: “Our agreement with Argosy complements our existing partner base in the UK. We know that customers choose Argosy for their ability to serve the market with the best products available today and they will now have even more choice as they gain access to the full range of Belden solutions.”

Mr. Turner added: “This move underlines Belden’s aspirations to grow in the UK. Our strategy is to work with the best in the business. Argosy is one of the country’s premier distribution partners in the broadcast market and this partnership will help to strengthen our position in the UK’s professional broadcast market.”

“Belden has a very solid international reputation in the HD broadcast and Audio Video Information Technology (AVIT) sectors and we are delighted to be able to add their cable range to our extensive infrastructure product line up and support their business across the UK,” said Mike Purnell, director, Argosy. “Furthermore with projects becoming more complex throughout the production chain, Argosy’s ability to continue to provide first-rate resources, service and support for installations will be of considerable benefit to Belden and its customers.”

To underline its commitment to the UK market and to enhance its competitive position, Belden has rationalized its main pricing structure. Paul Turner: “We have set out to be ultra-competitive in the professional broadcast market across EMEA. Following a major pricing review, Argosy is able to offer cost-effective quality Belden solutions to the market.” He added: “We will never stop looking for ways to develop business opportunities, with leading partners and customers.”

Argosy to Showcase Latest Fibre Solutions and HD Infrastructure Products at IBC 2009

Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom, August 5, 2009 Argosy, a leading UK-based international supplier of HD broadcast cables and studio infrastructure products, will showcase its latest range of fibre solutions and HD products at IBC 2009 (Stand no. 10.D55, 11-15 September 2009) at the RAI exhibition centre in Amsterdam.

Fibre Management Tools

IBC will see the European debut of its fibre management tools including the SDI fibre video converters, patch panels and its BendBright-XS ruggedized fibre optic cables.

The BendBright-XS cable is the first fibre of its kind on the market and is unique in its ability to fulfil all three relevant ITU recommendations G.652.D, G657.A and G.657.

Argosy also provides a range of single and multi-mode fibres which can be supplied in patch, breakout or in multi-way loose-tube & tight buffered constructions with 4 to 864 fibres as per requirement.  These cables incorporates internal strength members enabling them to be very versatile and suitable for both internal and external applications whilst maintaining a low weight and shorter bend radiuses for ease of installation.

Visitors to IBC will also see the Argosy copper to fibre media converter.  This converter is already setting new standards by offering greater distances for the transmission of SDI signals - up to 20km depending on bit-rate being used - at one of the lowest price points available on the market today.

At IBC, Argosy will demonstrate its latest range of equipment racks which offer an expanded cable tray capacity.  The rack is available with depths of 800mm, 900mm and 1000mm.  In the 800mm depth version, a total cable tray width of 1200mm can be achieved - permitting greater flexibility during both the installation and wiring stages as well as an even distribution of weight.  This additional space also allows for improved airflow for cooling purposes.  The intermediate mounting profile is adjustable, ensuring additional flexibility, saving time and reducing installation costs.

HD Infrastructure Products

Visitors to the Argosy stand will see a range of HD products from across Argosy’s portfolio including an array of IMAGE HD video cables, connectors, high density HD video patch panels, MDUs, routers, audio jack fields, KVM switches, and Sonarae, its audio monitoring system as well as a variety of video accessories.

“Argosy is probably best known for its IMAGE HD video cables which are used by broadcasters and systems integrators around the world.  Today we also provide one of the broadest range of HD infrastructure products that address the ever changing needs of broadcaster’s as they transition to HD and strive to achieve improved workflow efficiencies and connectivity,” said Mike Purnell, director at Argosy.  “We will make further introductions at IBC as we continue to explore new developments that meet the broader needs of our clients.”

Lime Pictures Chalks Up First Anniversary with Argosy High Definition Infrastructure Products

Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom, June 18, 2009 — Argosy, a leading international supplier of HD broadcast, cables and studio infrastructure products, is celebrating the first anniversary of the installation of its high-definition (HD) infrastructure products at Lime Pictures, one of the UK’s largest independent producers.

The build and install process began in early January 2008 with a strict delivery schedule for transmission of the first programme in HD, by Channel 4, on 2nd June. The Argosy products were integral to this process and formed a major part of the complete overhaul by Lime Pictures of its production and editing facilities.

Hollyoaks is the first British serial drama to be produced in high definition. As a result this brand new facility enabled Lime Pictures to deliver one of Channel 4’s best-known and popular dramas using the latest HD technology.

The Argosy equipment including an array of racks, plinths, mains distribution units, video patch panels, audio jack fields, and HD IMAGE cables (including single and multi-mode infrastructure cables and SMPTE 311M camera cables) and connectors provide the complete infrastructure backbone requirements for the new Central Apparatus Room (CAR) and throughout the eight editing suites, seven audio dubbing suites, and studio facilities at Lime Pictures.

Early last year we decided to rebuild our production and editing facilities from the ground up and this enabled us to be very specific about the HD products we wanted to install,” said Andy Murray, Head of Technology at Lime Pictures.  “The implementation of the new CAR was significant and to that end we wanted to choose the best infrastructure products available to us at that time.  We selected the Argosy products for a number of reasons – first and foremost the breadth and quality of their product offering is substantial.  However, we also felt that Argosy understood our business drivers and workflow requirements.”

Murray continues, “We were also very conscious of the fact that 3Gb/s technology was gathering momentum and wanted to future proof our infrastructure as much as possible against these technological advancements. These factors, alongside our ongoing positive experience of working with Argosy over many years, are what prove 12 months on that we made the right decision. Argosy’s ability to deliver products, in some cases at very short notice, proved to be a great asset and one we utilised on many occasions.”

We are delighted to have supplied the infrastructure products for the build out of Lime Pictures’ CAR installation last June,” said Bob Clark, Director at Argosy.  “Our equipment is as pivotal to the whole operation today as it was when it was installed, and we are pleased to have supported the ongoing success achieved by Lime Pictures as they transitioned their business to HD.

We have always been keen to supply the best in class products, while at the same time offering a level of client intimacy that enables us to support customer’s ongoing needs – the importance of this is clearly evident at Lime Pictures today,” stated Clark.

The Lime Pictures server-based approach to production was built around a CAR with a 102-Terabyte Data Direct video production SAN.  The editing suites were based on Apple Final Cut Pro while the audio dubbing suites each had Merging Technology’s Pyramix audio post-production DAWs, VCube HD high-definition video playback systems together with Merging’s Ramses control surfaces – all connected via Argosy HD IMAGE cable.

rgosy has a wide complement of products which includes its most popular range of IMAGE HD video cables, connectors, fibre optic cables and accessories, high density HD video patch panels, MDUs, routers, audio jack fields, rack systems, KVM switches, and Sonarae, its audio monitoring system as well as an array of video accessories.
