🎉 40 Years of Argosy 🎉

Founding and Early Years

Argosy’s founders, Mike and Ken, first met 1975/76 while Ken was working for Kelvin Industries Inc. in Puerto Rico. Kelvin Industries Inc. manufactured precision wire wound resistors. Mike, who ran a small electronic components distribution and manufacturing business, was on the lookout for a quality line of precision wire wound resistors to round out his product line. Mike visited Ken in Puerto Rico where they hit it off from the get-go. Shortly afterwards Mike became Kelvin’s UK Representative and after having great success with the Kelvin product range, Mike decided to step away from his own business to become Kelvin’s UK and Northern Europe Salesman. In 1984, market changes led Mike to rethink his career journey and this is when Argosy was born. Mike decided to join forces with an old colleague, Doug Jolly.

Mike and Doug carried a range of components but the competition with the big players was becoming a struggle. In 1991, Ken started looking for new opportunities outside of Puerto Rico. Mike spoke to Ken about an opportunity to buy a small cable distribution company (Cable Warehouse). In March 1991, Ken became an equal partner after Doug retired. Together, they shifted focus from electronic components to the broadcast industry, growing Argosy from a two-person operation to a respected 32-person company by 2015. Throughout this time, their business partnership and friendship thrived.
